Julia Yu

Soprano

Julia Yu was born and raised in San Jose, California, and is currently a second-year MA/MST student at the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA). She completed two Bachelor’s degrees from UC San Diego: a B.S. in Cognitive Behavioral Neuroscience and a B.A. in Vocal Performance. Julia has performed as Frasquita in Carmen, Miss Silverpeal in The Impresario, Celie in Signor Deluso, and Cecily in La Divina. She has also produced solo concerts, including Transmogrification at the CCRMA stage last May. Julia is currently sponsored by the Friends of Music Scholarship to continue her vocal studies under Wendy Hillhouse. She is excited to have participated as the first vocalist in the 2024 Stanford Concerto Competition and to have been awarded the Friends of Music Graduate Prize for Performance for the Department of Music Awards Competition. Julia is looking forward to her graduation recital taking place on May 31st in Dinkelspiel Auditorium, where she will be presenting works by Manuel de Falla, Charles Griffes, and Benjamin Britten.
