ABOUT THE MUSICIAN

Eugene Lee came back to the piano only seven years ago, after a three-decades-long break from the instrument. He took piano lessons through high school, but—other than a choral conducting class in college—his studies would shift to a focus in science and management. He completed degrees from Harvard (A.B., Physics and Sc.B., Engineering and Computer Science) and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.S. in Management), and has built a career in technology. After executive stints at major corporations, Eugene founded (and currently serves as CEO of) Motiv8 Technologies, a digital startup whose mission is to help people make changes in their lives that improve their health. He was always passionate about the importance of classical music in society; he served on the board of the Peninsula Symphony Orchestra and delivered a TEDx talk entitled “Breathing Together: Leadership Lessons from Musical Ensembles.” But it was his discovery of the Chamber Musicians of Northern California that brought him back to piano performance, as well as the documentary about the 2011 Cliburn Amateur (They Came to Play) that he says “really inspired me to embark on a lifelong journey of mastery.
